Child Care - Lakeview Childcare Center
Values & GoalsFacebook button via NiftyButtons.com

Each child is valued and respected as an individual and encouraged to have a strong sense of identity, self esteem and wellbeing which is achieved by educators positively interacting with each individual child in their play, learning and routines and encouraging and supporting their development. Staff encourage each child’s sense of belonging within the service, encouraging a sense of trust and security. When a child has a sense of belonging they are more confident, feel more secure, are more creative and more likely to explore the world of learning.

Children are encouraged to become confident and involved learners, to be curious, cooperative, creative, imaginative, enthusiastic, persistent and reflective in a safe, secure and supportive environment that encourages the development of the whole child. Play provides opportunities for children to connect their thinking and actions which then facilitates learning. Our educators believe that all children should reach their fullest ability, and ensure that all children have opportunities to achieve the learning outcomes irrespective of their cultural diversity, backgrounds etc. Children are encouraged to develop a range of skills such as problem solving, inquiry, experimentation, hypothesizing, researching and investigation at their own pace and through activities that the children find interesting and fun. We use the Early Years Learning Framework to guide us in all areas of teaching and care. We encourage children to transfer and adapt what they have learned from one context to another and scaffold on their learning.

To encourage social development so each child learns to interact successfully in a variety of situations and form trusting relationships with staff and children at the centre. Educators support children with the skills needed to function within a group and model these skills. We encourage children to become aware of fairness, to become socially responsible to respect diversity and show respect for the environment. Children are helped to interact verbally and non-verbally with others. We encourage children to express and investigate their ideas, use a variety of media, begin to understand how symbols and pattern systems work, engage with a range of texts and gain meaning from them.

To be a support to all families in all aspects of each child’s development and work in partnership to support their child’s learning and development. We aim to assist each family to develop a sense of belonging and inclusion at the centre, to listen to and learn from families and acknowledge that the child belongs firstly to the family. We will maintain confidentiality and respect the right of the family to privacy. We value and encourage parent involvement in the centre.

We recognise and value the knowledge and commitment of the staff and fully support their continuing professional development. All staff and parents are encouraged to contribute and be involved in the program, portfolios and reflections. We aim to build collaborative relationships based on trust, respect and honesty. To share and build knowledge, experiences and resources together.

We acknowledge, rejoice and incorporate the culture and diversity of people within our community and are sensitive and respectful of varied cultural and religious practices. We aim to create a greater understanding of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
